the children were able to see a recreation of the empty tomb.

Mrs. Hickson’s class at Hawthorne Christian Academy recently enjoyed a Biblical field trip at Narroway Productions in Fort Mill. The hour long program allowed students to step back in time to an ancient world in an inspiring search for Jesus. Live animals and hands-on fun made this field trip both educational and entertaining. The students were able to meet Firecracker the Donkey, Sheba the Camel, and Biblical characters from the New Testament. The production featured special effects, dramatic lighting and sound, and authentic costumes that brought the locations of the Holy Land to life.

MISSIONS WEEK AT HAWTHORNE

Hawthorne Christian Academy held it's first annual Mission's Week, which was a series of special services, activities and classroom lessons discussing the work of missionaries around the world. Hawthorne was honored this year to have missionaries Tim and Kristi Johnson and Brian Baker to speak to the students, faculty and staff about their work on the mission field.

On Wednesday, February 22nd, Tim and Kristi Johnson shared stories about their ministry in Alpedrete, Spain. They shared how 30 million people in Spain do not have Bible believing churches in their communities, and how they are reaching out to share the gospel. At the conclusion of the service, Hawthorne presented the Johnson's with a check for $175 to help further their ministry. This money was raised by the students, faculty, and staff from previous chapel offerings. After the presentation, the students had lunch which included some ethnic favorites: Spanish rice and flan. The Johnson's are missionaries with the Free Will Baptist International Missions. For further information about their work please visit their website at: http://www.fwbgo.com/missionaries/johnson/

On Thursday, February 23rd, Brian Baker described his missionary work in the former Soviet Union in the early 1990's. He then described the changes he had witnessed when he and his wife Shannon went back two years ago to Russia. One of the memorable moments of his experience was when he was able to hand out Christian tracts to people at Lenin's tomb. Lenin had tried during his time as leader to remove God from the Soviet Union. Mr. Baker then closed with a challenge that we are all missionaries, and that God doesn't need our ability, He needs our availability. In addition to the presentation, the Bakers had pictures of their missionary experiences and several Russian matryoshka "nesting" dolls for the children to examine.

These chapel services were wonderful opportunities for the students, faculty and staff to learn about the work of missionaries and the challenge of the "Great Commission".

Hawthorne Students Perform in Christmas Play

Hawthorne Christian Academy recently performed a Christmas play entitled “The Miracle On Main Street”. The musical featured thirteen songs and had a cast and choir of over 50 students. Despite the challenges, the children stand up for their beliefs and joyfully proclaim their faith. Mrs. Becky Hickson directed the play and many of HCA’s faculty and staff participated in the production.
